Sand Casting Aluminum Skateboard Trucks (Legacy Project)

This shop also produced aluminum skateboard trucks using sand casting. The process is real manufacturing—but it carries real risk when melting aluminum near wood dust and finishing materials. Over time, fire safety became the deciding factor, and the focus shifted fully to decks.

What sand casting involves

  • Pattern creation (the form used to make the sand mold)
  • Packing sand and cutting gates/vents
  • Pouring molten aluminum into the mold
  • Cooling, de-molding, cleanup, and machining

Safety note (why we stopped)

Wood shops produce fine dust; finishing areas add solvents; and aluminum casting adds heat and sparks. In the same facility, the risk profile wasn’t worth it. The mission became building better decks safely and consistently.
